PURPOSE: Provided are an apparatus for producing an optical fiber preform of high quality and a method for controlling heating temperature of an auxiliary torch for the optical fiber preform, which prevent excessive heat from being applied to a soot exhausting tube by the auxiliary torch. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for producing the optical fiber preform comprises: a quartz deposition tube(10); a deposition burner(40) heating the deposition tube(10), moving along the axis direction of the deposition tube(10) for the modified chemical vapor deposition(MCVD) of the deposition tube(10); the soot exhausting tube connected to one side of the deposition tube(10); a gas supply part(30) connected to the other side of the deposition tube(10) to supply a dopant; a gas storing place(82) storing the dopant and a flow controller(80); the auxiliary torch(50) heating the soot exhausting tube continuously; a flow controller(200) for the torch(50) to control the burning amount and the heating temperature of the auxiliary torch(50); a location sensor(300) mounted on a moving path of the deposition burner(40) and connected electrically to the flow controller(200) for the torch(50). And the method for controlling the heating temperature of the auxiliary torch(50) comprises the steps of: sensing the location of the deposition burner(40) by the location sensor(300); deciding the burning amount of the auxiliary torch(50) by the flow controller(200) for the torch(50); heating the soot exhausting tube by the auxiliary torch(50) by using the decided burning amount.
