<p>A honeycomb structure comprising a cell structure (3) having a plurality of cells (2) separated by a plurality of partition walls (1a, 1b), and an outer peripheral wall (4) surrounding the cell structure (3). In the cell structure (3), the partition walls (1a, 1b) are bounded by a single plane connecting two different points on the outer peripheral wall (4) and have a group of first partition walls consisting of a plurality of partition walls (1a) positioned parallel to each other and a group of second partition walls consisting of a plurality of partition walls (1b) orthogonal to the partition walls (1a) constituting the group of first partition walls and positioned parallel to each other. Further, in this honeycomb structure, the spacing between the partition walls (1a, 1b) in each group of partition walls positioned parallel to each other changes stepwise at least in part of the cell structure (3), and at least part of the cell has a rectangular cross-sectional shape, and on the other hand, all partition walls (1a, 1b) have a partition wall thickness - cell side length ratio capable of withstanding the pressure at the time of canning. According to the invention, it is possible to provide a honeycomb structure superior in isostatic strength and thermal shock resistance, producible at low cost, and high in industrial practical utility.</p> |
