A modular inground lift (2) is supported by the lift bay floor (40). The lif t includes self contained modules (4, 6) which have their own power units (8). A telescoping cylinder (48) and locking leg (50) allow the depth of the lift t o be shallower than before. The use of VFD to control the motors allows monitoring of the loads, both during raising and lowering. The modular lift includes integral rebar to provide the structural connection with the lift b ay floor.
