Colour-forming impurities, including oxazole, are removed from acrylonitrile made by reacting propylene with ammonia by passing the acrylonitrile through a strong acid macroreticular ionexchange resin. A preferred type of resin is a macroreticular sulphonic acid cation exchange resin. The macroreticular resin employed has a specific surface area of at least 35 square metres per gram. |
