[Also in Divisions C2 and D1] Pharmaceutical compositions and cosmetics comprise as emulsifiers novel compounds of the general formula (I) (I) RO-[-C 2 H 3 (R<SP>1</SP>)O-] m -[-C 2 H 3 (X)O-] n -H wherein m has a statistical average value of I to 10, n has a statistical average value of 1 to 5, R is alkyl (C 12 -C 20 ), each of the R<SP>1</SP> radicals, being the same or different, is -Me or -Et, and X represents -CH 2 OH, a radical of the formula (II) or a radical of the formula (III) wherein p is a number from 0 to 10, with the proviso that the product nx(p+2) is 2 to 12. Examples are given of a moisture milk and nourishing cream.
