A trap device for use in a pipeline for launching and/or receiving a sphere S or pig therein comprises a chamber having a sphere or pig receiving platform 1 mounted for angular adjustment therein, and means for controlling the angular inclination of the platform so that the platform may be set at opposite inclines for launching or receiving a sphere or pig. In the construction shown, the platform comprises a pair of rails pivoted about a pin 2 and is formed in two sections, a relatively short launching section 3 and a longer receiving and holding section 4. The rails are pivoted by a screwthreaded rod 6 under the control of a hand wheel 8. When the free end of the section 4 abuts a stop 10 the section pivots thereabout to allow a sphere S on the section 3 to pivot the section downwardly about the pin 2 to facilitate the launching of the sphere (Fig. 6, not shown) while another sphere S is held in the trap by a lug 11. In a modification the rails are pivoted by a quadrant through a lever (Figs. 4, 5, not shown). The pivoting of the platform may be effected electrically, hydraulically and under remote control. The trap is closed by a cap 5 which may be of the type disclosed in Specification 1,050,920.
