PURPOSE: A process for preparing a chiral intermediate and a process for producing atorvastatin using the same are provided, thereby simplifying the production process of atorvastatin and increasing production yield and optical purity of atorvastatin. CONSTITUTION: A process for preparing a chiral intermediate represented by the formula(I) comprises the steps of: (i) selective hydrolysis of a compound of the formula(III) using a microorganism to prepare a compound of the formula(IV); (ii) reacting the compound of the formula(IV) with isobutylene under acid catalyst to prepare a compound of the formula(V); (iii) reacting the compound of the formula(V) with acetonitrile under base to prepare a compound of the formula(VII); (iv) reducing the compound of the formula(VII) under a reducing agent to prepare a compound of the formula(VIII); and (v) protecting cis-1,3-diol of the compound of the formula(VIII), wherein R1 is C1-C8 alkyl, substituted C1-C8 alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl.
