An ultrasound diagnostic instrument includes a console (110) having electronic circuitry for processing electrical signals for display including a digital processor (40), a memory (32, 42) for storing software for use with the processor (40), and a first connector (130) coupled to the memory, and processor. A transducer scanhead (112) for generating ultrasound waves, for receiving reflected ultrasound waves is connected through a cable (114), a second connector to the first connector, and to the digital processor. A second memory (42) external to the console (110) is provided for communicating with the digital processor (40) through the second connector, the second memory storing software, and data necessary for use of the transducer scan head (112) in the ultrasound diagnostic instrument. |
