The method involves acquiring a cone beam projection data that includes a pair of cone beam projection images (302,314). An identified region of interest is projected through at least a portion of an object region for identifying a three-dimensional reconstruction region (616) defined by various points. The images at each of points are reconstructed to form the three-dimensional image of the region of interest. An independent claim is also included for a system for reconstructing a three-dimensional image.
