A building demolishing method that does not require a large-sized machine to construct a shield and always secures a scaffolding necessary for demolishing a building, comprising the steps of erecting guide columns (2) disposed at predetermined intervals around the side of a building (a) to be demolished, assembling a shield (1) vertically slidable as guided by the guide columns to surround the lateral periphery of the building at the level of the ground or the lowermost story of the building, and storing demolishing machines (8-10) in the shield.
