Damping unit, especially an offset damping unit, comprises a damping medium application roller (2) actively connected to a plate cylinder (1), and a damping medium take-up roller (3) directly or indirectly assigned to the damping medium application roller. The damping unit also comprises a trough element (5) running along the damping medium take-up roller and having a complementary shape to the damping medium take-up roller. A gap (8) is formed between the trough element and damping medium take-up roller. The trough element has in its base a damping medium feed line (7). A trough-shaped damping medium collection container (9) surrounding the trough element extends over the entire length below the trough element to collect and remove the damping medium permanently overflowing the edge of the trough element. Preferred Features: The damping medium collection container protrudes upwardly beyond the upper edge of the trough element.
