Automation system and method for its operation

Automation system (10) for control and or monitoring of a technical process comprises a number of networked operating and or control units (11). To prevent unauthorized access to data identification certificates are exchanged between control and operating units and one of the operating units acts as a management unit (14) for generation and management of the certificates. Each operating and or control unit is allocated to the management unit for management purposes. An Independent claim is made for a method for secure exchange of data in a networked operating system, particularly where remote access is enabled.
