A substance that expands significantly upon exposure to heat, and which is compatible with the packaging material is added to the package. This substance will gently open the package when heated, preventing a potentially explosive build-up of gases. A method for ensuring that packages automatically open when heated above an abnormal temperature from the outside, due to e.g. fire, comprises adding a sufficient amount of a substance that expands significantly upon exposure to heat, and which is compatible with the packaging material. The thermal expansion substance completely fills the package and upon exposure to heat will gently open the package. An Independent claim is also included for the packaging. |
