In a method of agglomerating a magnesium silicate-nickel ore, the ore in fine-grained form is pelletized and the pellets are raised to a temperature which is below the melting point of the ore at such a rate that the iron contained in the ore is preserved in the trivalent form and recrystallizes, at least partly together with bivalent oxides, in the form of inclusions in a magnesium silicate matrix. An upper temperature limit of about 1350 DEG C. is specified in the case of gamierite with a minimum heating period of about 2 hours. By microscopic examination of polished sections of the pellets for the formation of spinels, it may be determined that the rate of heating of the pellets is sufficiently slow. |
