<p>PURPOSE:To provide a cell culture base consisting of a polyelectrolyte complex, capable of making cells adhere thereto and proliferating them in the absence of serum or at reduced amounts thereof in culturing animal cells, esp. adhesive proliferable cells. CONSTITUTION:The cell culture base with at least the surface thereof consisting of a polyelectrolyte complex obtained by reaction between (A) a cationic polyelectrolyte selected from cationic polysaccharides and quaternary ammonium salt polymers and (B) an anionic polyelectrolyte selected from anionic polymers of the formula (R11 is H or 1-4C alkyl; R12 is 4-20C alkyl or 4-20C alkenyl; Y is carboxylate group, sulfonate group, phosphate group, or salt thereof, or aryl containing said acid group or salt thereof; a is 20-100; p is >=10) and anionic polysaccharides. On this substrate, cells are three-dimensionally proliferated in a state close to their configuration in vivo, resulting in achieving the improvement in the production of physiologically active substances, adaptation to long- term culture, or the reduction in cell loss in their debonding.</p> |
