FIELD: light metering technique establishing ranges to space objects, for instance, to traveling star. SUBSTANCE: passive light metering method includes measurement of range to star emitting light on known frequency and traveling in direction to observation point or away from it with the help of photometer and passive Doppler range finder-direction finder. Luminous radiation of star is received twice at different times with measurement of frequency and bearing of star. Range to star is found by design formula derived from relation of illumination of telescope by examined star with due account of radial velocity and time interval between measurements. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy of determination of range and velocity of approaching (moving away) light-emitting star. 2 dwg
