Disclosed is sulfuric acid mono-[3-({1-[2-(4-fluoro- phenyl)-ethyl]-piperidin-4-yl}-hydroxy-methyl)-2-methoxy- phenyl]ester a metabolite of the 5HT2A antagonist (+)- alpha -(2,3-dimethoxyphenyl)-1-[2-(4-fluorophenyl)ethyl]-4- piperidinemethanol and a processes for its preparation and its use in the treatment for a number of disease states. Particular diseases are those treatable by antagonizing the effects of serotonin at the 5HT2a receptor, such as schizophrenia, anxiety, variant angina, anorexia nervosa, Raynaud's phenomenon, intermittent claudication, fibromyalgia, coronary or peripheral vasospasms, cardiac arrhythmias, thrombotic illness, extrapyramidal symptoms, depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorders, insomnia or sleep apnea.
