PURPOSE: An amalgam assembly is provided to enable outflow of a gas in operating a lamp and flow of mercury deposition in driving the lamp by providing an improved exhaust tube. CONSTITUTION: An amalgam assembly comprises an exhaust tube(20) of glass with a free end sealed, a glass bulb(40a,40b) disposed in the exhaust tube, a mercury amalgam body disposed between the glass bulb in the exhaust tube and the sealed end of the tube, and a tube constriction part(22). The tube constriction part has a plurality of projection parts(26) separated from one another and projecting toward the inside, and is so structured that the glass tube can be held on the center axis of the tube. The glass tube is concentrically locked to the projecting parts in the tube, and the gas can pass between the glass bulb and the inside surface of the tube through gaps among the projection parts.
