A transgene comprising a DNA fragment comprising a DNA sequence of a continuous region of the immunoglobulin heavy chain locus on human chromosome 14 from the D segment genes, continuing through the J segment genes and the constant region gene Cì of that locus, wherein said DNA fragment is operably linked to at least one human V segment gene, and wherein said DNA fragment further is operable linked to an additional constant region gene, said additional constant region gene comprising a mouse gamma-1 switch region and human constant region coding exons, wherein said transgene is a yeast artificial chromosome (YAC).
