PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording tape cartridge which enables a drive device to be miniaturized. SOLUTION: In a recording tape cartridge 10 which is provided with a roughly rectangular shaped housing 12 in which an upper housing 16 and a lower housing 18 which are made of synthetic resin are joined by making mutual peripheral walls 16A and 16B of them to be abutted on each other and in which a single reel 14 around which a recording tape T is wound is housed so as to be able to be rotated, an aperture 20 which is formed in the housing 12 and which is for pulling out the leader member 22 attached to the end part of the recording tape T, a shield member 50 which opens and closes the aperture 20 by performing slide transfer, an operation part 52 which is provided projectingly in the member 50 and which is to be engaged with the engagement member 59 of the drive device and a slit 40 which is formed by notching the part 12B of the housing 12 and is for exposing the part 52, the cartridge is formed so that the tip face of the part 52 which is exposed from the slit 40 becomes roughly flush with the wall 12B when the member 50 blockades the aperture 20.
