PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide waste paper-compounded newsprint paper which has good printability, can prevent the occurrence of a printing trouble such as paper breakage on a rotary press printing operation, even when the amount of an added filler such as white carbon is reduced (or even when the filler is not added). SOLUTION: This waste paper-compounded newsprint paper compounded with water paper pulp is characterized by containing magazine waste paper pulp in an mount of≥5%, having a residual ink area of≤100mm<SP>2</SP>/m<SP>2</SP>on the surface of the newsprint paper, and preferably further having a surface roughness of≤2.8μm defined by JIS-B 0601 and measured with a stylus type surface roughness measurer define by JIS-B 0651. It is preferable that the magazine waste paper pulp or waste paper pulp containing magazine waste paper is deinked by a mechanically stirring treatment using a disperser in a waste paper pulp-treating process.
