PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid catalyst having a high polymerization activity which produces an olefin polymer having excellent powder properties such as a high bulk density, a narrow particle size distribution, and reduced amounts of large particles and fine powders, and furthermore a narrow molecular weight distribution, and a process for producing the olefin polymer. SOLUTION: The olefin polymerization solid catalyst is obtained by supporting an organoaluminumoxy compound (B) and a compound (C) of a group IVB transition metal in the periodic table which contains a ligand having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton on a silica carrier (A) having a specific surface area of 600-850 m<SP>2</SP>/g, a pore volume of 0.1-0.8 ml/g, and an average particle diameter of 2-12μm.
