PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zinc based metal-coated steel member which has excellent corrosion resistance in edge faces and damaged parts. SOLUTION: The surface of a steel member having a composition comprising, by mass,≤35% Cr and≤10% Al, also satisfying 1≤[Cr%]/3+[Al%]/6, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities is provided with a zinc based metal coating comprising≥40% Zn. The corrosion resistance in the exposed parts such as edge faces and damaged faces in the steel member can remarkably be improved, and its use in every application including civil engineering building materials, automobiles and vessels is made possible.
