PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a titanate multiple oxide particle of a particular shape which is especially suitable for a dielectric material, a piezoelectric material, an electrostrictive material, transparent ceramic, a high refractive index material, etc., and its preparation process. SOLUTION: A mixed aqueous solution of a titanium salt and at least one metal salt chosen from the group consisting of Sr, Ca, Ba and Pb is added to an aqueous alkaline solution to obtain a hydroxide or a hydrate of titanium and the metal element. The hydroxide or the hydrate is heat-treated at 110-300°C in the presence of water, filtered and dried to obtain the titanate multiple oxide particle. The obtained particle represented by the formula: ATiO<SB>3</SB>(wherein A is at least one metal element chosen from Sr, Ca, Ba and Pb) shows a good crystallinity and a sheet-like shape with an average particle size in the sheet surface direction of 1-30 nm.
