PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for releasing a door lock of a centrifuge, by which a door of a centrifuge main body can be opened easily after the rotation of a rotor is stopped when abnormality of a motor is detected and to provide a method for controlling this apparatus. SOLUTION: This centrifuge having a door lock releasing apparatus is provided with the centrifuge main body having an opening, the door for closing the opening, a door locking/unlocking mechanism for keeping a state that the opening is closed by the door, the rotor for mounting a sample-containing test tube, the motor for rotating the rotor and a means for controlling the door lock releasing apparatus. When the abnormality of the driving motor is detected (S3:YES and S5:YES), the power supply to the motor is stopped (S4) and after the prescribed time passes the door locking/unlocking mechanism is made to be in an unlocked state (S7).
