A communication device (10) has a processorless mother board (12) carrying a PC-bus and a first interface (11) for joining to the PC-bus, at least one passive module (30,40,50,60), especially a telecommunications module arranged on the motherboard (12), a control device (20) pluggable on to mother board and having a processor (22) connected to the second interface (21) and joined via this interface (21) to the PC-bus and designed for control of the, or each, passive module (30,40,50,60) joined to the passive PC-bus via the first interface (11).
