The sample holder (1) is connected to a transponder (2). Sample holder and transponder are sterile. The transponder has read/write capabilities. It forms part of an information system with read/write equipment used to register information identifying the sample holder. Information concerning the sample is exchanged with memory and/or a data bank. The memory medium is the transponder. The transponder is sterile and/or can be read without interrupting the cooling train and/or without shaking or shock. The data bank is network-accessible. Data access is encoded.
