Instead of an insulator, there is a section (19) adjacent to an amplifier, in which optical wave-guides are fitted with a greater effective cross section than in the rest of a submarine cable (12) that has optical wave-guides with a usual data-transmitting cross section along a stretch from a transmitter station (15) to receiving station (16). An Independent claim is also included for a structure for transmitting data to a receiving station via an optical wave-guide cable.
