It is intended to provide an Hsp90 family protein inhibitor, etc. comprising as the active ingredient a cyclic phenylacetic acid derivative represented by the following general formula (I), which is useful as drugs such as an antitumor agent, or its pharmacologically acceptable salt: (I) wherein R<1>, R<2>, R<3> and R<4> are the same or different and each represents hydrogen, hydroxy, optionally substituted lower alkyl, etc.; X represents oxygen, sulfur, -N(R<5>)- or -CH2-; a represents -CR<a1>R<a2>-, optionally substituted arylene, an optionally substituted divalent heterocyclic group or a bond; b represents -(CR<b1>R<b2>)m- or -CHR<b3>CR<b4>R<b5>-; c represents -(CR<c1>R<c2>)n(CHR<c3>CR<c4>R<c5>)p-; d represents -(CR<d1>CR<d2>)q- or -CHR<d3>CR<d4>R<d5>-; and e represents -CR<e1>R<e2>-.
