PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nickel hydride battery in which ammonium gas dissolved in an electrolytic solution can be promptly trapped and there is no bad effect such as that a new ion remains in the electrolytic solution. SOLUTION: The nickel hydride battery comprises a container that has a housing 2a in which the electrolytic solution 2c cannot reach and yet which has an opening, and a trapping material 2a capable of trapping ammonia gas is housed in the housing 2a. The container comprises a container body 2e and the housing 2a, and the housing 2a can exist inside the container body 2e or outside of it.
