A diagnostic apparatus and method for monitoring a system including a plurality of monitored components. The diagnostic apparatus includes sensors for generating measured data relating to the operation of the monitored components and sensors for generating environmental data relating to the current operating environment of the system. Data processing means receives the measured and environmental data and correlates at least a portion of the data to generate condition data relating to the condition of the system. Data transmission means transfers at least a portion of the condition data to an external data processing system.
