The synchronization device (1) provides synchronization of the mobile radio receiver with a time slot and frame structure of a base station radio signal by detecting the time slot and frame synchronization codes within the radio signal received from the bast station for correlation with known time slot and frame synchronization codes via a correlator (5) in a first stage (2) and calculation of the time slot and frame boundaries in a second stage (3) using the correlation results. An Independent claim for a method for synchronization of a mobile radio receiver with the time slot and frame structure of a base station radio signal is also included.
