<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a large capacity storage device with a copy right protecting function, allowing the copying of data from another recording medium with a copy right protecting function. <P>SOLUTION: The storage device 1000 for recording digital data comprises a first recording medium 1100 as a semiconductor memory with a copy right protecting function, a second recording medium 1200 as a large capacity hard disk, and a host controller 1300 for controlling communication with external host equipment and controlling the first recording medium 1100 and the second recording medium 1200.
