PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce ink consumption in preliminary ejection by shortening the time required for preliminary ejection while achieving reduction in size and cost. SOLUTION: The inkjet recorder is provided with a plurality of recording heads, each having an array of ink ejection nozzles arranged in a specified direction, in correspondence with the kinds of ink being used for recording, and performs recording by ejecting ink from each recording head onto a recording medium. When preliminary ejection for ejecting ink irrelevantly to recording is performed, preliminary ejection for driving all nozzles of at least one recording head is performed by a specified number of times as a unit. The recording head performing preliminary ejection is switched at a specified period and operation of preliminary ejection and switching of the recording head are controlled such that preliminary ejection is performed by a desired number of times using all nozzles of each recording head.
