PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a condenser and a refrigerating machine having high cooling efficiency by quickly removing a condensate from heat transfer pipe groups, and enhancing a heat transfer rate of a refrigerant and heat transfer pipes in the condenser. SOLUTION: This condenser has a vessel 14 for introducing the refrigerant downward from above, the heat transfer pipe groups 15a and 15b composed of a large number of heat transfer pipes arranged in the vessel so as to form two or more layer structures in the vertical direction and a liquid partition plate 20 slantingly arranged to a horizontal plane between respective layers of the heat transfer pipe groups, and is characterized in that a space part 22 extending in the vertical direction is arranged in the heat transfer pipe groups 15a and 15b, and an opening part 21 is formed in the liquid draining plate 20 for communicating the space part 22 in the upper heat transfer pipe group 15a with the space part 22 in the lower heat transfer pipe group 15b.
