<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To emit SOx from an SOx holding material while excellently maintaining emission of the whole emission control device. <P>SOLUTION: This emission control device has an exhaust emission control material 16 for carrying the SOx holding material, SOx emitting means 19a and 19b for emitting the SOx from the SOx holding material by enriching the air fuel ratio of exhaust gas flowing in the emission control material and an exhaust flow control means 17 for controlling a flow of the exhaust gas to the exhaust emission control material. When the exhaust flow control means is put in a first state, the exhaust gas is made to flow in the emission control material from one side, and when the control means is put in a second state, the exhaust gas is made to flow in the emission control material from the inverse side, and when the means is put in a third state, the exhaust gas bypasses the emission control material. When the exhaust flow control means is switched between the first state and the second state, the exhaust flow control means is switched via the third state. The SOx is emitted from the SOx holding material by the SOx emitting means in the middle of switching the exhaust flow control means between a first operation state and a second operation state. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
