<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method and a device for a magnetic tape library which can discriminate appropriately the existence of a magnetic tape specified by a mount command and the legitimacy a tape without loading a magnetic tape and which can discriminate appropriately the existence and the legitimacy of a magnetic tape even when a library is shared by a plurality of high order devices. <P>SOLUTION: This device is provided with a magnetic tape information storing table 8 storing existence of a magnetic tape and discrimination information (volume label) of the magnetic tape corresponding to each of magnetic tape storing cells S1∼Sn and magnetic tape drives D1∼Dm. A waiting time of a host computer 1 required for carrying and mounting a magnetic tape and program searching is removed and high speed backup processing is realized by transmitting the existence of a magnetic tape and discrimination information of the magnetic tape specified by a mount command referring to data previously stored in a magnetic tape information storing table 8 to a host computer 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
