PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rare-earth element doped fiber where it is unnecessary to calculate a fiber cut length in consideration of the concentration of a rare-ear th element as in the conventional manner and to cut a rare-earth element doped fiber based on the measurement of the calculated value, in a step for manufacturing a rare-earth element doped fiber optical amplifier. SOLUTION: The rare-earth element doped fiber 10 is provided with a core that forms a center of a fiber and is doped with a rare-earth element, and a clad covering the core.
