PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a screw shaft for a ball screw capable of reducing the vibration and noise of the ball screw by damping the vibration generated in the screw shaft. SOLUTION: This screw shaft 1 has a hollow hole 3 and a granular or flexible object closely filled in the hollow hole 3 as a damping material 6. When the screw shaft 1 is elastically deformed in the operation of the ball screw, relative slippage is caused between the granular damping materials 6 filled in the hollow hole 3 and between the inner wall surface of the hollow hole 3 and the granular damping material 6, and a friction force is generated against this slippage between the damping materials 6 and between the inner wall of the hollow hole 3 and the damping material 6. Since the vibration energy of the screw shaft 1 is canceled by the friction force to damp the vibration generated in the screw shaft 1, the vibration and noise of the ball screw can be reduced.
