PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform appropriate UDPTL (user datagram protocol transport layer) communication, to improve the transmission efficiency between facsimile gateways, to reduce useless traffic on an IP network and to reduce the communication cost. SOLUTION: At the time of performing facsimile communication by using an UDPTL protocol on the IP (Internet protocol) network 114 with an opposite party gateway 111 on the basis of an ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union-T) recommendation T.38 procedure, the number of secondary packets to be stored in one UDPTL payload with respect to the opposite gateway 111 is decided and non-redundant facsimile data as n pieces of the secondary packets together with a primary packet as one UDPTL payload are stored and transmitted to the opposite gateway 111. In the transmission of the succeeding UDPTL payload, a sequence number related to the primary packet is made to step by n+1 each. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
