PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid occurrence of a gap defect of each transparent substrate due to first spacers dispersed in a sealing agent. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display includes a step of forming, on rectangular substrates 1, 2, a plurality of first sealing agents 6A parallel to the major side direction of the substrates and enclosing a display region and a second sealing agent 6B on the substrate edge side of the first sealing agents in the major side direction of the substrates and a step of cutting off parts of the substrates arranged opposite to each other together with the second sealing agent. The first sealing agents 6A are formed on the inner periphery of the upper substrate 2 (chain double-dashed line frame in the figure) and liquid crystal injection holes 11 are made in the sealing agents 6A. The second sealing agent 6B is formed on the outer periphery of the lower substrate 1 (chain line frame in figure 6) and an air exhaust hole 13 is made in the sealing agent 6B near the liquid crystal injection holes.
