PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deformation of an exhaust port-side cylinder wall by thermal expansion by increasing the flow rate of cooling water carried in the exhaust port-side water jacket of an engine, thereby reducing the temperature difference of the cylinder wall 3 between the exhaust port side and intake port side. SOLUTION: This cooling device for engine has a cylinder block 1 having a water jacket 4 opened to the surface of the cylinder block 1 and surrounding a cylinder bore 2 to pass cooling water, and a gasket 11 nipped between a cylinder head and the cylinder block 1 to seal the both. The basket 11 has a control plate 21 for controlling the flow of cooling water, the plate being protruded into the water gasket 4. The control plate 21 is formed circularly along the shape of the water jacket 4, and provided on the intake port side. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
