PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily set on a vehicle in a device for controlling the exhaust pressure of an engine by lowering the whole height of the device. SOLUTION: This device has an exhaust throttle valve 1 provided in the exhaust passage 17 of the engine and having an hollow shaft 2, a main spindle 6 arranged within the hollow shaft 2 concentrically with the hollow shaft 2, a drive means 19 for rotating the main spindle 6 in relation to the hollow shaft 2, a first passage 3 formed through in the diameter direction of the main spindle 6, and a second passage 4 formed through in the diameter direction of the hollow shaft 2. When the main spindle 6 is rotated by the drive means 19 in the closed state of the exhaust throttle valve 1, the first passage 3 communicates with the second passage 4 to form a bypass passage 20 mutually connecting the up stream to down stream of the exhaust throttle valve 1.
