PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aromatic methylidene compound as a functional material in an electrophotographic photoreceptor, a functional material such as a charge transport material and a light emitting material in an organoelectroluminescent element, or a functional material used for an organic semiconductor element; a material thereof; its manufacturing method; and an organoelectroluminescent element obtained by using the same. SOLUTION: The organoelectroluminescent element comprises a layer containing a compound represented by general formula (1). In general formula (1), R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>are each an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl or alkoxyl group, a halogen group, a cyano group or a nitro group; n<SB>1</SB>is 0-5; n<SB>2</SB>is 0-4; R<SB>3</SB>and R<SB>4</SB>are each hydrogen, an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aromatic, or aromatic heterocyclic group, or R<SB>3</SB>and R<SB>4</SB>jointly form a ring of unsubstituted or substituted aromatic or aromatic heterocyclic rings; and Ar is an unsubstituted or substituted aromatic or aromatic heterocyclic group.
