The present invention provides methods of identifying modulators of apoptosis. Additionally provided are methods of contacting a cell with a compound capable of decreasing the amount of cyto c necessary to form an active apoptosome, and thereby inducing apoptosis in the cell. The invention also provides compounds having formula (I): and pharmaceutically acceptable derivatives thereof, wherein RI, R2, R3 and n are as described generally and in classes and subclasses herein, and additionally provides pharmaceutical compositions thereof, and methods for the use thereof as modulators of apoptosis and for the treatment of disorders caused by excessive or insufficient apoptotic activity. |
