Copyright protection information recorded on an optical recording medium is not readily read, thereby effectively protecting the benefit of the copyright holder. Copyright protection information SA is randomized by using binary sequences, and a signal generated by using the binary sequences is recorded in a predetermined area of an optical recording medium (2). No one can interpret the copyright protection information SA without knowing the binary sequences used for randomization. Therefore information can be enciphered by using the information as a key. In reproduction, the copyright protection information SA is deciphered by calculating the correlation between the binary sequences used for the randomization and the reproduced signal. By using the information, the ciphered recording information is deciphered.
