A harness design assist system for realizing efficient harness design by recognizing the movement of a harness incident to operation of a mechanism in real time without causing any increase in the processing amount at the time of designing and developing an apparatus incorporating a harness, e.g. a printer, an automobile, a machine tool, or an industrial robot, thereby providing an environment where harness design can be verified dynamically. The harness design assist system comprises a mechanism information holding section (20) for previously holding the three-dimensional model data (22) of mechanism components in an apparatus being designed other than the harness, a section (11) for setting information concerning the harness as harness information (23), a section (12) for building the three-dimension mechanism model of the harness and the mechanism components based on the harness information (23) set at the harness information setting section (11) and the three-dimensional model data (22) of the mechanism components at the mechanism information holding section (20) and simulating the operation of the harness by the three-dimension mechanism model while interlocking with the operation of the mechanism components, a section (30) for displaying the operation of the harness and the mechanism components, and a display control section (13) for displaying the simulation results from the simulation section (12) as the operations of the harness and the mechanism components at the display section (30).
