A cooling blower for an IC engine is driven directly from the crankshaft via a free wheel coupling and a fluid coupling. A higher speed drive is provided by a belt drive directly to an accessory, e.g. coolant pump, which is driven from the crankshaft via a step up ratio. The higher speed cooling provides enhanced cooling at low speeds and high torques. For improved cooling the fluid clutch can be fitted to the accessory, which is not shielded by the body of the engine.
