The method involves transmitting the first and second signals (S1,S2) with a phase difference of at least approximately zero when transmitting NRZ-modulated signals so that the modulation stage limits of each of the first and second signals differ to the maximum extent from the evaluation time points of the other signal. A phase difference of at least approximately null is set between the first and second signals. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: (a) an arrangement for reducing signal degradation in optical polarization multiplex system.
