<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a projection type image display device using a free curved surface mirror capable of preventing a situation that the free curved surface mirror is warmed by luminous flux projected to the free curved surface mirror and a reflection surface is distorted by thermal expansion. <P>SOLUTION: The projection type picture display device is provided with a separation optical means to separate the light of the light source into a plurality of color beams, a liquid crystal display element to modulate the respective separated beams, a synthesis means to synthesize the respective beams modulated by the liquid crystal display element, and a projection lens for projecting video light synthesized by the synthesis means. The projection lens consists of a plurality of free curved surfaces and constitutes a reflection and projection optical system, and air is made to blow off a 1st surface reflecting the beam emitted from the synthesis means for the first time by a ventilating device. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
